CAS No.: N/A
Synonym(s): Valeryl Coenzyme A, Pentanoyl coenzyme A, Valeryl-CoA, n-Valeryl-CoAAvailability: 2-3 weeks
Valeryl-CoA (pentanoyl-CoA) is a short-chain fatty acyl-CoA that functions as an intermediate in mitochondrial β-oxidation and related metabolic pathways.¹ ² It is generated during the metabolism of compounds such as valproic acid, where thiolytic cleavage of 3-oxovalproyl-CoA yields pentanoyl-CoA and propionyl-CoA.¹ Its levels can reflect changes in lipid metabolism under different physiological and pathological conditions.²
Applications
Valeryl-CoA is primarily used as a metabolic marker in biochemical and biomedical research.¹ ² It has been instrumental in confirming the complete β-oxidation of valproic acid in mitochondria.¹ In metabolomics, Valeryl-CoA serves as an indicator of altered lipid metabolism, including diet- and mutation-associated changes observed in cancer models.² It is also analyzed via acylcarnitine profiling (as pentanoylcarnitine) for studying fatty acid oxidation and related metabolic disorders.¹
