Benzoyl coenzyme A (Benzoyl-CoA) is an intermediate in the CoA-dependent epoxide pathway, synthesized from benzoate and further converted into 2,3-epoxybenzoyl-CoA by enzymes like benzoyl-CoA reductase and oxygenase. It serves as a substrate for type-III polyketide synthase, plant enzymes like biphenyl synthase and benzophenone synthase, and is involved in the gentisate pathway of Comamonas testosteroni. Benzoyl CoA is also used in studies of benzoate metabolism, alcohol acyltransferases, and the synthesis of polyketide derivatives such as biphenyl and dibenzofuran (Bastard et al., 2011; Hirayama et al., 2018).
